On the morning of March 28, many residents attended the opening ceremony of the public community garden at Buyeong Garden, walking around the plots, checking their assigned sections, and getting ready to begin farming in earnest.
At the site, education on garden management and crop cultivation was also conducted. In addition, guidelines on garden operation rules were provided, and lettuce seedlings and compost were distributed to family and small garden plots to support the start of crop cultivation.
One elderly resident said, "It's wonderful to tend the garden with my grandchildren and embrace the seasons," while another participant shared, "It's a great opportunity for children to experience nature firsthand.“
The public community garden will be in operation for approximately eight months, from March 28 to November 22. Participants can experience the changing seasons firsthand by growing a variety of crops, such as lettuce, peppers, sweet potatoes, and cherry tomatoes. Additionally, a farming tool rental service is available from Monday to Saturday to support beginners in participating with ease
Bupyeong-gu emphasizes eco-friendly cultivation principles, prohibiting the use of chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and herbicides, as well as plastic mulching.
Through this, efforts are being made to produce safe food and create a sustainable urban farming environment.
A district official stated, "We hope the public community garden will become a space where residents can enjoy rest, learning, and communication together," and added, "We will continue to expand various programs to promote urban agriculture.“
Opening under the warm spring sunshine, the public community garden has become more than just a space for cultivation; it is establishing itself as an urban sanctuary and a community hub that connects people, nature, and neighbors.
