A cultural space in a parking lot… Exhibitions by local artists and cultural exchange with residents

The “High Zone Parking Lot Gallery” is gaining attention as a local arts and culture space. This gallery was created to provide exhibition opportunities for local artists with passion and talent, and to provide a venue where they can communicate with residents.
Inside the High Zone Parking Lot Gallery, photographic works are on permanent display. Visitors show strong interest, as they can view high-quality pieces comparable to those in regular exhibition halls.
From February 1 to 28, a special exhibition by the artists participating in the culture and arts invitational exhibition was held, giving residents more opportunities to view works.
Being able to appreciate artworks in the unique setting of a parking lot offers modern people with busy daily lives a brief respite, and also injects vitality into artists’ creative activities.
In particular, considering that many artists struggle due to a lack of space to exhibit their work, this place is provided as an open space where anyone can exhibit for free.
Director Chae Hyeong-gi (member of the Bugae 1-dong Residents’ Autonomy Committee) said, “Currently, about 12 artists are active,” adding, “It was especially disappointing that there was no exhibition space even for works by students who participated in the Bugae 1-dong Military Railroad-Side Photo Contest. I hope these difficulties can be resolved here.”
He continued, “The more frequently the works are rotated, the more it will help revitalize the area and further boost artists’ motivation to create,” emphasizing the importance of making use of the underground gallery space.
Director Chae has worked to vitalize the Hi-Zone Parking Lot Gallery, beginning with his activities as an artist with Korea Photo Broadcasting in 2019. He said, “I ask for the strong interest and participation of local residents so that the Hi-Zone Parking Lot Gallery can become even more active.”
