“Cheongcheon Drum Club” is a 24/7 open space for music lovers to gather and relieve their stress while staying healthy through drumming.
“We welcome anyone who loves music,” said Club President Lee Yun-Hee (70). “A drum is an instrument that you play with your whole body, so it helps you relax and relieve stress.” Lee emphasized that anyone could learn to play the drums, even without any musical knowledge. Cheongcheon Drum Club features five drums, and the practice room is available for use at any time.
There are currently 19 members, and they have private lessons twice a week. Beginners can learn the basics of drumming, step by step.
“I’ve wanted to learn the drums since I was young, and I finally found this place and signed up three months ago,” said Kim Yong-Jun (85), one of the club members. “Playing the drums is fun. It’s a full-body workout, and it helps improve concentration and prevent dementia. It has given me a sense of accomplishment, and I somehow feel younger.”
“Drumming is more than just a hobby—it offers a variety of pleasures to people of all ages and brings benefits in terms of health, brain activity, friendship, and emotional release,” said Bae Hye-Seon (66), a founding member of the club who has actively participated for five years. “You can find a different kind of vitality in the rhythm here. Our practice room is always open to everyone, so feel free to drop in!”
President Lee also said, “If you ever feel like learning an instrument, you can join us anytime. Playing the drums will boost your confidence and improve your quality of life.”
