Bupyeong 2-dong’s “Neulbom Village” and Bupyeong 3-dong’s “Changhwi Village” are neighboring communities. Following a canceled redevelopment project in 2017, they were selected for a residential environment improvement project in 2018, leading to the formation of the Hahagol Residents’ Council. Since then, the two villages have actively collaborated on various projects, strengthening their bond. In December 2024, the completion of the “Hahagol Village Public Complex Facility,” a three-story building with one basement level, further revitalized the sense of community.

Hahagol was once a neighborhood vulnerable to safety issues. Pressing concerns in the past included frequent illegal dumping of waste and a lack of spaces for seniors to gather. The first initiative launched by the Hahagol Residents’ Council (led by Kim Young-ok) addressed these issues with a community garden.

 

Residents, especially the elderly, participated in monthly-cleanup activities. Through a public grant program, they received free flowers from the district office and planted them in neglected spaces. Since 2023, they have also promoted a “Beautify Your Home” campaign, encouraging households to decorate their homes with flowers.

 

The “Hahagol Village Public Complex Facility” is operated by the community, with its operations supported through affordable services like a gym, coin laundry, and café. Additionally, a housing-management office provides a free rental service for tools.

 

The facility also hosts healing programs for the elderly, including storytelling sessions and singing classes. There are plans to establish a social cooperative in the future to manage village projects more systematically.

 

Talking about the facility’s opening, representative Kim Young-ok stated, “Through this facility, we hope to connect residents and create a united community that continues to grow and thrive. Our goal is to build a village that people will want to live in and visit, ensuring a healthy community for future generations.”
